A balanced arrangement isn't all roses. Florists build with four roles: focal flowers (the showstoppers — dahlias, peonies, garden roses), secondary blooms (the supporting cast — ranunculus, lisianthus, snapdragons), filler / texture (the airy bits — feverfew, statice, scabiosa pods), and greenery (the foundation — eucalyptus, ferns, foraged foliage). The split this tool uses — roughly 30% focal, 25% secondary, 20% filler, 25% greenery — is a sensible default for garden-style work, and it's exactly the kind of recipe a grower-florist needs to know before deciding what to plant.
Always order more than the math says — usually 10–15%. Stems get damaged in transit, some won't open in time, and a few will simply refuse to sit right in the bouquet. This calculator adds a 12% buffer automatically. If you're growing your own, that buffer is your cue to either plant a little extra or know exactly how many stems to buy in from another farm.
Stem count is only half the budget question — the other half is your price per stem, and that varies more than beginners expect. A blended average of roughly $1.50–$3.00 per stem is a reasonable wholesale starting point for a garden-style wedding; sourcing retail from a wholesaler or supermarket runs higher, and growing your own drops your cash cost dramatically (your real cost becomes seeds, time, and field space).
